Vestberry — Venture Capital Fund Management Platform

Challenge

Venture capital funds need a sophisticated tool to manage their portfolios. General Partners (GPs) must track dozens of investments, performance metrics such as IRR, TVPI, and DPI, and regularly report to Limited Partners (LPs) on the status of their investments. Existing tools were either too simplistic or required manual data processing in spreadsheets, which became unsustainable as volumes grew.

Solution

Martin Abaffy was part of the development team that built Vestberry — a SaaS platform for VC fund management. The platform enables GPs to manage the complete fund lifecycle — from recording investments, through tracking portfolio companies, to generating detailed investor reports. The solution includes multi-currency real-time reporting, complex waterfall distribution calculations, and automated revaluation models.

The system was designed with a strong emphasis on financial calculation accuracy and reliable processing of data from external sources. Particular attention was given to handling multi-currency conversions and ensuring data consistency across the entire platform.

Technologies

The frontend is built on React with TypeScript, ensuring type safety and maintainability of the extensive client-side code. The backend uses Node.js with a GraphQL API, enabling efficient fetching of precisely the data the client needs. PostgreSQL serves as the primary database, where complex financial calculations run directly at the database level for maximum performance.
